175 Feet Above Florida

On a wet, blustery day, I paid $6.95 to climb the second tallest lighthouse that is still open in the United States.

Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and Museum is a lovely stop if traveling to the Daytona Beach area. There are many educational elements there too, which are especially good for children or adults unfamiliar with maritime culture.

I had previously and learned about lighthouses and the Fresnel Lens that illuminates most of them while living in New York, during a trip to the North Fork (Long Island). If you are new to lighthouses, you will likely find the Fresnel fascinating.

The stormy weather made taking photos challenging. Here are the best ones.

PS – I consider myself fit but still found the climb to the top challenging.
