Today, I went to the Audubon Birds of Prey Center in Maitland, Florida. Maitland is in Seminole County, adjacent to Orlando, so extremely easy to access if you are visiting the area. The Center takes in injured or sick birds primarily from the Atlantic flyway that runs over Florida.
Although the center is small, it is in a lovely spot on Lake Sybelia and the staff are friendly and accessible. The birds on view Raptors, the center’s specialty, and included hawks, eagles, vultures, kestrels, osprey, falcon, and several species of owls. Most are in enclosures so you can’t get too close, but a few small kestrels and owls that can’t fly due to injuries are tethered in a small room that allows for close up viewing. These fierce predators and scavengers are fascinating!
Here are a view photos from my enjoyable visit.
